What we love: Maison et Objet Paris 2017

Today we bring you to the blog a small abstract from the second edition (Interior design/architecture) of M&O held in Paris from September 8th to 12th 2017. We are presenting you with the most “talk about” pieces on the internet right now and some favorites of ours.

If you have no idea what M&O is you are missing out one of the most relevant design shows there is. M&O is an interior design fair held in Paris twice a year during January (product design) and September (architecture and interior design), that showcases the latest home décor trends from around the world. This lifestyle show brings together into one space professionals from different design fields: Decoration, design, furniture, accessories, textiles, fragrances and tableware.

The show targeted to interiors designers architects, technical consultants and hospitality professionals, is a must see event for all experts in the field being an opportunity to take stock of the trends and to know what furniture, colors, materials and shapes will invest in private interiors but also restaurant decoration, hotels and other places.

The show is organized in 3 parts in the 9 halls of the event.
·        “Maison” focuses on Interior decoration, organized into different worlds.
·        “Objet” the show concept store ideal for retailers, articulated this year in
-        Cook & Share
-        Home & Fashion Accessories
-        Smart Gifts
·        “Influences” unique itinerary.

The theme for this edition is “Comfort Zone” which encourages to “leave the areas of discomfort of an unstable and insecure universe” and “to adopt the new parameter of the property live at home”.
This edition was all about feeling good, comfortable and secure reflecting on many of the products exposed in the fair. Comfortable spaces, cocoon shapes, materials and soothing atmospheres was the norm, perfectly complementing the past January theme “Silence” suggesting the return of the Zen.

This living the “good life at home” is every introvert´s dream and we are loving it. Curves replace straight lines and shapes become enveloping, soft and reassuring. Very comfy and smooth fabrics are seen all around as well.
So get comfortable and let's see what we spot.

Trends

Interior trends.
Dark and comfy interiors. Rich and deep color complement a very warm space.

Well put together spaces styled in a very unconcerned way, where things are not necessarily perfect just like it is at home. This interiors seem to want to almost flirt with luxury expressed into metallic (silver but mostly golden ) details, expensive looking coverings and lavish shiny fabrics like velvet. All this is achieved in a very relaxed and not at all intimidating way.

Colors

Olive Green.
From pottery and walls to furniture; green and olive green is everywhere. The pantone color of the year was all over maison et objet this season. So we can expect to see more of this shade of color on upcoming new interior designs works.

Turmeric yellow.
Another popular color was this burnt out yellow or turmeric yellow during this edition. Earthly colors; burnt out oranges, salmons and yellows, bring warm and make for a pleasant space.

Sapphire Blue Details.
It seems like no piece is completed without a small touch of this luxurious deep blue. A sofa, a base, a splash on a table or mirror.

Sofas and furniture.

¡The furniture at Maison et Objet this year almost feels like it wants to give us a polite hug! Very well structured sofas with round and soft edges, low back and slick legs (a very Scandinavian/Nordic style) is the description of “the” sofa this season. Let’s add to this a very rich upholstery and we have a youthful and yet formal piece, comfy enough for resting. So keep your eyes open for "bean" like shapes and soft edges.

Imagery

Pineapples, Flamingos and Palm Trees.

So it seems like the era of the Flamingos and pineapples is not over yet. This 50´s “Palm Springs poolside cocktail party” imagery is been around for a couple of years already and we will be seeing more of it. Maybe a more refined and less cartoonish version?  Maybe. But not less fun whatsoever!

The cactus.
Cactus, cactus, cactus. Everything, everywhere. Pottery, decorative pieces, sofas inspired shape. The cactus imagery seem to be going strong.

Natural fibers.
A weave like composition made out from combining different materials. Natural fibers, metal and a touch of color create fun and fresh pieces.

Glass and Pottery

This season we are having very colorful pieces. Hybrids between Sommerso Glass and materials like metal or cork.

OUR FAVORITE PIECES

1. ISP WALL lamps by Ilia Potemine.
This lamp is something else. The lighting lies inside a golden tube and a bright white luminaire is revealed by pulling it out of this elegant envelope. Love!
2. 3D Galaxy Lamp by Finish Line.
